At Montpellier Primary School, our maths program gives students the knowledge and skills they need for everyday life and future work.
We use hands-on materials to help students understand important mathematical ideas. They learn to solve problems involving numbers, measurement, geometry, statistics, and probability, using both written and mental strategies. We encourage students to explain their thinking to show their understanding.
Our teaching follows the Launch, Explore, Summarise approach, a research-backed method that puts students at the centre of their learning. Students have plenty of opportunities to use resources and solve real-life maths problems.
We also focus on developing important skills like persistence, resilience, and teamwork. By creating a supportive and collaborative classroom, students explore maths deeply, discuss ideas, and work together to solve challenges.
Your child will take part in a variety of activities that are open-ended and challenging, designed to make learning maths enjoyable and meaningful.
