Grade 3 & 4


In Years 3 and 4, the daily program consists of a 2 hour Literacy (Reading and Writing) block and 1 hour of Numeracy per day. Classrooms are designed to encourage collaborative working with individual and team success. There are no composite classes at Montpellier Primary School.  During the week the children also participate in Visual Art, Performing Art, STEM, Physical Education, Sport and the ‘You Can Do It' program.

In Grade 3 our Integrated topics are:

Term 1 - How has Geelong changed over time?
Term 2 - What influences people's food choices?
Term 3 - What makes up a coastal ecosystem and how can they be impacted upon?
Term 4 – How can I contribute to my community?

Activities that enhance and further support student learning:

  • Excursion to the Old Geelong Gaol, Geelong Waterfront Bollard walk and the Geelong Art Gallery
  • South Melbourne Market excursion.
  • Queenscliff Marine Discovery Centre excursion.
  • Researching charities and donating to charities within our local community.

In Grade 4 our Integrated topics are:

Term 1 - How has Australia and its population changed over time?
Term 2 - How do plants and animals survive?
Term 3 - How do Puppets move?
Term 4 - What do our bodies need to stay healthy?

Activities that enhance and further support student learning:
  • Phillip Island camp.
  • Melbourne Zoo excursion and Grade 4 Zoo Open Day
  • Visit by a refugee from Diversitat.
  • Global Children’s Challenge
  • Student prepared Puppet Show.
Teachers and parents work closely together to achieve maximum success for their children. Students also have access to a number of extra-curricular learning, sporting and social opportunities throughout the year.
