Buddies
Montpellier Primary School offers a fantastic Buddy program for the Prep and Grade 5 students. The program is designed to provide the Prep students with a special friend who supports them as they enter school. The Grade 5 students assist the Preps in finding their way around the school and helping them find their friends during recess and lunch. Within our program the students meet regularly to complete special activities in each other's grade.
Grade 5 students are selected to work with the Preps so that the support unit is in place for the first 2 years of a Prep students schooling. Whilst the buddy program supports the Preps it also provides the Grade 5's with a chance to build on and demonstrate their leadership skills. This prepares them for Grade 6 where they may nominate for a role of responsibility in the leadership group.
Social Service
The school holds weekly social service collections and these are totalled up each term and donated to various charities and organisations such as Leukaemia Foundation, Cottage by the Sea, Bush Fire Relief Fund, State School Relief Committee, Cancer Foundation amongst many others.
In addition, from time to time we hold casual dress days such as Jeans for Genes/Sunsmart and Crazy Hair day for the Make a Wish Foundation, and Good Sports Day for the Children's Cancer Institute.
The children also support TwoCan Toucan Day which is a food collection activity for the Geelong Food Bank. At the end of the year, a Christmas food collection is taken up and the children who attend Religious Instruction classes present the collection to the Salvation Army at our annual Church Service.
The school also sponsors a child, Tsekako Isima in Uganda.
